Welcome to the CSIL SIGTo the site of the CSIL SIG Computer Supported Inquiry Learning"Inquiry is an approach to learning that involves a process of exploration, that leads to asking questions and making discoveries in the search for new understandings”.Taken from“Foundations”, Vol, 2, NSF, 2000 Inquiry learning is not about memorizing facts — it is about finding appropriate resolutions to questions and issues. In inquiry learning the central idea is that students are more likely to remember and recall knowledge that they constructed on their own. Unfortunately, inquiry can be a complex undertaking and it may take a lot of struggling before students experience the excitement of solving a task or problem on their own. Carefully designed inquiry learning environments can assist students in the process of transforming information and data into useful knowledge. The Computer Supported Inquiry Learning SIG focuses on how technology can be used to create and enhance learning environments that aid students in the processes of formulating investigations intended to create new knowledge and understanding. Inquiry learning is a complex process that consists of a number of specific learning processes. The main focus of the SIG is on ways to support inquiry learning. For the design of effective support a deep understanding of the learning processes that comprise inquiry learning is necessary. InterestsThe interests of the Inquiry Learning SIG include, but ae not limited to the following topics: Inquiry learning, learning by modeling, scaffolding inquiry learning processes, assessment techniques for inquiry learning processes and their outcomes, implementation of computer supported inquiry learning in the curriculum and the everyday classroom.
